Remembering "The Cave"!

The trip from posting from the bottomless pit got me remembering our first time into the cave. We took headlamps, harnesses, ropes, and a camera – and I’m so glad we took that camera! We took several pictures, and then for Christmas, Belinda put together a scrapbook for each of us – each one made by hand – twenty-five pages each. It was such a gift of love, and I wouldn’t have these pictures readily available today if she hadn’t done that.

Here are some of the pictures from that first trip into the cave scanned from that scrapbook. Thanks, Belinda, for making such an awesome event a quick to remember.

(We built this tripod to put over the hole and give us a center to drop down into the cave.)

(Hummer got us as far up the mountain as we could...)

(Taking a look at things before we make "the drop".

(I'm the first going in... This stuff's never been tested before... I'm just hoping it all holds together... ha ha!)

(View from the side... you can see the hole at the top, the wall on the side, and if you look REALLY CLOSELY, you can see someone sitting at the bottom in a red jacket - you may have to click on the picture to enlarge... this gives the best view of how huge this place is!)

When we climed down to the bottom of the cave... it looked like that was all there was... until we saw this little hole (next photo) that dropeed down about 15 or 20 feet. We decided to give it a look, and when we did, we found ourselves inside another cavern - three times the size of the first! Now that was awesome!

(Stalagmite in the second cavern... I'm wondering how many years it took for this thing to grow...)

(This second cavern seemed to go on forever... amazing!)

What a trip this was! I'm hoping to go again inside sometime soon. And little Connor's already asking me how old he needs to be to go in the cave. :)

Wow! That's amazing! It's neat that you have such an Awesome memory and that it was scrapbooked for generations to see. I'm rooting for Connor! ;o)
