Bela Menina Joins The Family!

Connor has a great love of dogs. While we were living in Singapore, Connor would consistently ask if he could get a dog, and any time he would see someone walking a dog, he would get so excited, and HAVE to go pet it. I promised him a dozen times that we would get him one when we got back to the United States. Well, we’ve been back for over 9 months now… and it’s about time I followed through on my promise.

After watching Old Yeller a month ago, Connor was set on getting an “old yeller dog” so I scouring the newspapers and internet to find an available golden lab. I didn’t realize how difficult it can be to find one. There weren’t any around here locally… and if you order online, you never know what you’re really going to get. Oh yeah… Connor’s other request was to get a puppy… a small puppy… “one with it’s eyes still closed”. I tried to explain to him that a puppy that young wouldn’t be ready to take home… but it was clear he wanted one as small as possible. Finally I found a place that had a female puppy for sale in Kentucky that looked like a cute puppy, and the people selling it sounded like good, honest people. AND, although not initially included, they were good enough to give us full registration rights with the puppy, meaning Connor could eventually breed it and sell registered puppies and make some money in a few years… PLUS finally have his young puppy “with eyes not yet open” to boot!

We flew the dog in Saturday morning and picked it up at 2:30pm. I’ve never seen Connor and Rocky so excite!

Connor picked out a name right away – Bela Menina (which means “pretty” “little girl” in Portuguese).

Here are the pictures of our first day with Bela Menina:

At the airport, waiting for the puppy's flight to get in.

She's finally here!!!

If you have any little boys, you just HAVE to get them a dog... life's just not the same without one. :)

Are the boys sleeping in the mud room?
