Day 2 we started as we always do, with Breakfast at the Shilo. The bat from the night before was a favorite talk of discussion, along with the naming of the boats… Big Sam decided on the name Nishan Maru – a tribute to one of the whale hunting vesicles in the show “Whale Wars.” So we named our boat the “Steve Erwin” the boat run by the Sea Sheppards group that hunts and interferes with the whale hunting of the Nishan Maru. All in good fun. J

Connor did a great job pulling up the crab, and our boat caught a total of 10 crabs. (2nd place after Big Sam’s 15 crab catch). Connor and I were able to get in a little one on one father and son time on the beach, just talking, looking for sea shells, and digging in the sand together.

At the end of the day, we had plenty of crab to fill everyone’s bellies. Jessie and his boat caught the biggest crab (officially measured thanks to the digital calipers given to Dad as a birthday present from Chris). Without those calipers, it would have been another year of endless debates and smack talk as to who’s crab was actually bigger… It was a close one this year.

After crabbing, we hit the Tillamook Cheese Factory, a favorite stop for our trip. Tillamook is well known for their cheese, but their ice cream is outstanding! And their fresh-made waffle cones are second to none!

They have a great tour and viewing area where you can watch the cheese actually being made and packaged. This day they didn’t seem to have the crews running, but some I took some pics of the viewing area just for fun…
